Anonymous asked: Hey there! I was wondering what you thought of the Emotional Brilliance line still containing parabens? I was honestly really surprised. I'm a long time Lush fan and will most likely still buy some anyway, but there's such a focus now on the negative effects of parabens, and considering how much the line focuses on being free from harmful ingredients and cruelty, it just really surprised me that they'd still be in there.

Hey anon!
Apologies for such a late reply, pretty busy and one of us is enjoying London 2012 in person!

So I will try and answer from my perspective as briefly as I can!

Most claims of negative effects of parabens (specifically methyl- and propyl- in the EB range) I have disregarded. Today, there are SO many things that can be rubbished, everything can give you cancer and people say the darnedest things - Sex Bomb can apparently induce labour (false, the levels of essential oils in finished products is very minimal and well under recommended volumes) and who really believes the bits in Big Blue are seaweed - no one wears hairnets in the ballistic room! :P

But seriously, for me, making educated choices for what I choose to eat, bathe in, wear or live in, there are things far more harmful. I am privileged to be able to make informed decisions where LUSH is concerned, and be able to learn more about things like parabens. And at this time, I am confident that they use such small amounts and of these two parabens which have such a long history of safe use.

Both are made from plant materials and only the liquid products contain them to prolong the life of them, as bacteria will grow wherever there is water in the product.

In my eyes, the line is still hitting the mark on being cruelty free and with lovely, harm-free ingredients. Especially when compared to so many other products on the market. So LUSH’s use of them is justified in my opinion.

In all, I’ve never been able to wear mascara, until now. Not that I am a make-up person, but it’s nice to dress up now and then. :3

Blergh, sorry for such a wall of text!
